What was the reason behind the opening of the store?
Flammarion which is a limited company of the Flammarion Publishing Groupe has the concession inside the Centre Pompidou since its opening in 1977. With each renewal since then Flammarion has gained the invitation to tender.

We are located in the Centre Pompidou – National Museum of Modern Art in Paris – with three points of sell : main on the ground floor, 2nd in the Museum (4th floor) and 3rd on the main temporary exhibition floor (6th).
Please describe the kinds of books and other merchandise that you carry. What do you offer your customers?
Flammarion Centre bookshop is a must for booklovers generally. The space benefits from a fluid, calm space, designed by Renzo Piano, the architect of the Centre. More than twelve thousands contemporary art books, including 300 different specialized international journals and magazines, and a strong line in contemporary art, architecture & design, photography & cinema and graphic arts can be found here. The bookshop actively collaborates with the Centre and the Museum on publications, conferences and exhibitions.

Who might be seen visiting the store? What kinds of people shop there?
We do have a wide range of visitors from students - who also go to the large public Library – to the fine connoisseur. Half of our customers are visitors of the temporary exhibitions and of the Museum of Modern Art.
Do you do anything at your store besides selling books? Do you, for example, have any events or exhibitions there?
As we are a Museum shop we also sell posters, postcards, museum stationery and dvds and cds. There is a large dedicated window inside the main shop where we use to promote special books, products and publishers every two or four weeks. We regularly plan book signing and book launching inside the shop and we are proud to have welcomed famous international artists and architects such as Annette Messager, Sophie Calle, Marlene Dumas, Richard Serra, Pierre Soulages, Jeff Koons, Sir Richard Rogers, Renzo Piano, Tom Mayne (from Morphosis), Yona Friedman, Michel Gondry among many others.
Is there anything else about the store that you'd like us to mention?
We are certainly the biggest modern and contemporary art bookstore in Europe and this everyday goal is fulfilled by the entire motivated crew of the company.
