Gestalten presents The Tender Spot—A Talk by Mario Lombardo

Mario Lombardo is one of Germany's most internationally renowned and prolific graphic designers. Because he has been up to so much, it has unfortunately been a full 2 years since he gave a talk in Berlin. Since then, Lombardo has moved his office from Mitte to Kreuzberg, resulting in a complete restructuring; he has done many innovative jobs for new clients; and—last but certainly not least—his first comprehensive monograph, The Tender Spot, was published by Gestalten last fall.

Because it is high time for an update on his perspectives and activities, we are thrilled to present a talk by Mario Lombardo on Thursday, June 23 at 19:00 in our Gestalten Space—a venue much more intimate than that of his last local appearance at the Typo conference in 2009.

We know that Mario will have entertaining slides and videos along to give us an insightful look at how his work develops. But this master of improvisation is also sure to let us in on the design topics that are foremost in his mind on that day as well as have time for answering your questions.

About Mario Lombardo:
Mario Lombardo’s particular strength lies in his ability to playfully and seamlessly meld masterful classic graphic design with experimental concepts and emotional intensity with an intelligent design approach. His clients include K-Swiss, Sony Music, Red Bull, and Audi. Lombardo has won numerous awards and has defined innovative magazines such as Liebling and Spex. In 2008, he was honored as Germany’s Visual Leader for the complete body of his work by the Lead Academy.

About The Tender Spot:
The Tender Spot is Mario Lombardo’s first comprehensive monograph. The book features his multifaceted repertoire of graphic design, which was produced between 2000 and 2010 in the cultural context of music, fashion, photography, architecture, and contemporary art. The 256-page documentation of a variety of projects is supplemented by personal work, which is published here for the first time.
