Industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, whose company KGID (Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design) resides in Munich, is not only one of the most influential German designers today but also a humble man and thereby pretty much the complete opposite of your average narcissistic designer/artist. After an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he studied at the Royal College of Art in London as an assistant to Jasper Morrison. Bavarian born Grcic prefers to stand back behind his work and chooses industrial designs over limited edition exclusivity.
Recorded at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan in April 2008, this podcast interview features the launch of his cantilevered Myto chair for the Italian furniture brand Plank and Landen, a seating element for outdoor spaces for Vitra’s collection of limited edition pieces and Grcic talks about designing Myto and his approach to design.
