Tsutaya’s new retail venture
Posted by Gestalten—02/2012

Japan’s largest media retailer has recently launched its latest outlet in the Daikanyama district of Tokyo. Offering far more than conventional shop amenities, the Daikanyama Tsutaya Books, designed by the Tokyo-based Klein Dytham architecture (KDa), elegantly fuses shopping with leisure and lifestyle. Incorporating a lounge, a CD&DVD rental shop and a cutting edge bookstore, the complex consists of three main buildings, which are connected by an elevated promenade. KDa’s concept and interior design speaks to the consumer of aesthetic culture whilst cementing Tsutaya’s respected reputation for professional service. The smooth contrast of the light and intricate T-shaped exterior latticework to the rich and soothing indoor furnishings is worth a visit. Keep an eye out for an upcoming feature on this Tsutaya as part of our monthly featured shop series.
