The book of Genesis in the Bible’s Old Testament contains some of western civilization’s best-known stories, whose lasting resonance over the centuries is based on much more than religious fervor. This book presents the work of young Argentine illustrator Christian Montenegro, who has visually updated a selection of these powerful tales including stories of creation, Adam and Eve, Noah’s ark, the Tower of Babel and Sodom and Gomorrah.

While Montenegro’s illustrations and designs have more in common with the emotions of Expressionism and the texture of woodblock prints, their distinctly contemporary feel gives new life to the Biblical texts that appear alongside the images. The book’s original mix of pop visuals with traditional themes highlights the timeless spiritual quality of Genesis by making it accessible for all ages and beliefs.
